Get all 4 of your Nether Shadows in play or in your graveyard.

During your upkeep, sacrifice them to Life Chisel, the other comes into play, sacrifice another, another comes into play and keep going until you're happy with your life total.

I wonder if this is possibly the first ever combo.

Apologies, but this doesn't work (and didn't even with the old wordings).

With the old wording, they only trigger once to return to play, at the end of your upkeep. This trigger doesn't even go on the stack unless there are 3 creatures above the shadow (intervening if clause). If you had all 4 shadows in play and sac them all to the chisel, at the end of your upkeep you get one of them back. Since you have already passed your end of upkeep, the shadows will not trigger again even if you sacrifice the one that just reanimated.

With the new wording, it gets even harsher as the shadows trigger at the beginning of your upkeep. If you sacrifice any to the chisel, you have to wait until next upkeep to get any of them back.

I'm well aware it doesn't work now, but when Legends first came out this combo was all over the scene and rules guys were okaying it post tournament and nobody complained either.

The funny part is back then you could get off everything else so fast that many people abondoned it and then when rules became official as world tour started coming in it was almost worthless.

Did you play back in '93?
