someone played this on cockatrice and i lost 1st turn.  I was drunk, so i can\'t remember, but they put out hive mind with city of traitors and something else first turn and played pact of the titan, so i lost. it was bogus, and i can\'t take credit.

Besides getting the Hive Mind out faster, City of Traitors doesn't seem necessary.  It is pretty sweet, though, to see a pact copied off of Hive Mind.  This may be fun an a 5 color EDH with lots of tutors.  5 color will let you play all 5 pacts :).  It'd get really ugly in a four player game when you cast Pact of Negation on a spell of theirs and each of your opponents gets to choose a new target for their pact.  Whenever a pact is countered, it doesn't require you to pay the mana on next upkeep.

Uh, I'm not sure how he paid the mana to get the Hive Mind out or how the City of Traitors helped?

Magic isn't something to be done while drunk. It's serious business.

After the last tournament I played alcohol wouldn't cut it for the idiots I had to deal with.

Currently, although we have our best scientists on the job, there is no cure for idiotism...

now that i think about it, i think it was second turn.  I'm pretty sure he played an island first turn.  and played grim monolith and city of traitors second turn.  I don't remember exactly tho.  That makes more sense.  and turbine, you are right, magic and alcohol don't mix.  Whenever I play drunk I totally suck, and I can't even focus on what's going on.  when this guy did this to me, I didn't even get it at first, and he was like, "you know you lose now?"

Good to know. I didn't want to have to get a third mortgage to acquire a Black Lotus...

tap island or swamp (whichever you drew and played) for mana (use Lotus Petalto get one more mana, the color of mana you dont have yet... need 1 blue, 1 black)
cast 2 Dark Ritual

play hive mind (using the 5 black mana from the 2 Dark Ritual for colorless, and the 1 blue mana from either a land or the petal)
cast the pact of the titan (for 0 mana)

first turn kill (6 cards including a swamp (or island)

you need this to kill your opponent on your first turn, regardless if they went first or not

island or swamp
lotus petal
dark ritual
dark ritual
hive mind
pact of the titan
