With Leyline of Anticipation and Birthing Pod on the board, you can sac any creature at 'instant speed', allowing you to dodge almost all removal spells.  If they try to kill your guy, you just upgrade him in response.

Leyline only affects casting spells, not activating abilities.

If the Birthing Pod hadn´t  the text 'Activate this ability only any time you could cast a sorcery', you could use your idea without Leyline, but as Turbine said, Leyline text says that you can CAST spells, not USE abilities. But the IDEA that you tried to pass is awesome: your creatures will be protected from destroys and other abilities. Good job.

307.5. If a spell, ability, or effect states that a player can do something only “any time he or she could
cast a sorcery,” it means only that the player must have priority, it must be during the main phase of
his or her turn, and the stack must be empty. The player doesn’t need to have a sorcery he or she
could actually cast. Effects that would prevent that player from casting a spell or casting a sorcery
don’t affect the player’s capability to perform that action (unless the action is actually casting a
spell or casting a sorcery).

shoulda checked up on the CR before I posted.
