Anything you pay as a cost doesn't count as damage and cannot be prevented or redirected. It can just be healed.

Great combo without Souleater.

Give Stuffy Hexproof and Shivan Meteor it in two turns for 13 damage. Double it up with any card doubling damage of sorceries and you set up 26 damage on turn 5 at the least.
