Example

Turn one: Plains, Steppe Lynx

Turn two: Forest, Khalni Heart Expedition (Attack with your now 2/3 cat)

Turn Three: Land, Harrow (Sac a land, then dropp two land) (Attck with your now 6/7 cat)

There are lots of ways to abuse these two cards and fast. My wife uses them in her extended Deck to drop out 8/8 tramples into play on turn 3. Trust me it gets worse, if she is not dead by turn 5-6 you might as well quit.

No not a nerd as such as we are, but in her own way yes i suppose. She plays to share more time with myself.

my wife is the same way, she doesn't go to tournments or FNM but she enjoys playing with me.  There are also a few wifes in our playgroup who play when we all get together as a social event, some of whom are really good and got killer decks(my wifes naya deck is a bitch actually).  It was my friends wife who got him and us hooked on the game as she has been playing since ice ages

Don't get me wrong but I thought this game was for teens...

Magic is really for people of all ages. I am 13, but I play at FNM with adults.

Magic is not just for nerds or teenagers. I'm 55, married, with 6 grandkids and still playing since 1995 (And also ride a tricked out Harley)! The youngbloods at FNM think it's great that I still play and are amazed at the killer decks (@100) that I lug around with me.

You're too kind. Any ideas on a viable Type-2 deck for FNM. I'm an old-school Type-1 (dare I say Vintage) player and my local "meta-game" is 75% Vampires and the rest various combo-based decks (mill, fetchlands, Landfall, etc). Should I try to "out-vamp" them or go for a white based anti-Vamp (anti-black) theme with a splash of anti-red and creature removal?

I have only 3 Type-2 decks, Vampires, Goblins and Discard. The other 97 decks are Type-1.

This is what i am running although it has yet to see tournement play at this time.

  1. Elite Vanguard              X4               Arid Mesa                             X4

  2. Palace Guard                X4               Terramorphic Expanse     X3

  3. Bladetusk Boar             X3               Kabira Crossroads            X4

  4. Serra Angel                    X3               Plains                                   X5

  5. Hellkite Charger            X2               Mountains                           X8

  6. Luminarch Ascension X4

  7. Journey to Nowhere     X4

  8. Safe Passage               X4

  9. Lightning Bolt                X4

  10. Burst Lightning             X4
Currently i have found that Green horde decks rape this deck like crazy, so i am working on putting in Day of Judgment in place of the Serra Angel. After seeing the Terra Eternal on the current spoiler for worldwake I am hoping for Red's Appocalypse to come back into style. Total board control is what i want for this deck and im not far off from the way it plays.

Jim-  I have had good luck with a UW Kor deck.  The white offers cheap creatures that can quickly power up with some select equipment.  Also it offers some pinpoint  and mass removal and the lifegain screws many red based decks.  The blue controls the field with counters and bounce so the big threats offered don't matter.  Two of the best planeswalkers are available along with an awsome wall.

To all,

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Here's what I'm thinking to deal with my local metagame: (low cost and low mana curve)

4 - Soul Warden

4 - Valeron Outlander

4 - White Knight

4 - Undead Slayer

4 - Devout Lightcaster

4 - Blazing Torch

4 - Honor of the Pure

4 - Journey to Nowhere

4 - Celestial Purge

4 - Asha's Favor

4 - Graypelt Refuge

12 - Plains

4 - Forest

(From Worldwake I plan on adding/substituting in Kor Firewalker, Refraction Trap and/or Admonition Angel)

Good luck Tim. My local area the top decks are currently blue/black mill and Vamps. Only a small amount of people are playing Red Burn and only one of those decks are any good at this time. From the chatter I have been hearing around the local shop however Red/Green Ramp is probally going to hit hard in my area.

I have seen Vampires, Dredge (only once), Elves, Bant, Jund, and Mono-red Direct Damage all at FNM.

how many show up to the fnm in your area?

Currently i think we are averaging 12 players a night. Small town compared to back in the day for me. Use to play in the city where we had 30+ at any given time.

I would have to say around 30 or so. It really depends on the day though.

I know what you guys mean. From 1995-2000 we had 6 stores in town to play magic (and other games) at. Today it's dwindled down to just 2 and they only play magic Fri/Sat. Mostly yu-gi-oh and heroclix type crowds now.

Not a Heroclix hater. Though I do prefer Warhammer fantasy.

Along the topic of nerds an wives, there used to be this advertisement on this website for something like E Harmony that was called Geek 2 Geek. It looked really stupid though
