Pro-black, absorbs trample damage, and never dies. What more do you want from a blocker?

Whoa, yeah. It's not obvious at first, but that really is a great combo. Just a little expensive is all, but in a green deck that's never too much of a problem is it?

nice , or combo, this would work with any of judgements phantoms.  though i do want to point out it does not do anything to prevent trample damage.  a inkwell or darksteel or even a hellspark will still run over it, though the centaur will surive

Unless the rulings have changed in the past few years, The removing a counter does absorb all combat damage (including trample) from the creature.

when a creature with trample damage is blocked it can assign letal damage to the blocker and the rest to the player.  in this case a 5/5 trampler can assign 3 to the phantom 2 to the player

to be honest I don't know when the rule changed it might do with the fact damage doesnt stack anymore
