Preist of Titania, Elvish Archdruid, Rofellos, or any other creature that can reliably be tapped for five or more mana can replace the Channeler.  The Staff is amazing because not only does it provide infinite mana, it is also the perfect outlet for that infinite mana (infinite tapping and untapping of creatures, infinite life, and infinite card draw).
