It really is a remarkably amazing combo. So simple, yet so beautiful. And the surprising part is, the Leyline's been around since Guildpact and the Helm from Alliances, so there really was quite a long time for somebody to discover this. Kudos, and welcome to the Hall Of Great Members Who Post Great Combos, IBNL. ; )

So I'm kind of new to Magic, how exactly does this combo work?

The actual combo is the helm and the leyline. See the post called 2 card exile library on the first page to see how this works
The rest of the cards are simply accell to play it first turn.

How can this exile a whole library? Culling and Lotus only give you 5 mana to play X for Helm's ability.  And im pretty sure your opponents have more than 12 cards in there library....

Basically when you trigger the helm you choose a value for X (in this case 1),  you  then need to put cards from your opponents library into their graveyard until you put X (1) cards in the grave or a creature card.

However, the leyline creates a replacement effect, where the cards are exiled instead of going to the grave.  As a result, the helm never stops removing cards, because the way to stop it (1 card put into the grave) is never reached

only works because the wording on the helm states "continue doing this until"

but yes this is a good combo

Wow thats an insane twisting of wording. If i actually tried to use that against my buddies they would fight nail and tooth.

Why is an ancient combo of mine most viewed this week?

I was just looking at that and then saw the last post and almost commented digging it up and decided against it.
