Unless you have the necessary cards in play to stop the damage, once this is on the field (and summoning sickness has dissipated) there is nothing that can stop this combo except for split-second cards (and only a select few).

Not necessarily, since you are relying on the resolution of the abilitys to keep the combo going if something resolves before an ability it would stop the combo, basically if someone throughs anything out before the mana from pila resolves will kill the combo unless you have additional mana free to keep it going.

@Turbine,

He's stating the permanents are already on the battlefield, so too late for counterspell.... unless you boomerang then counter ;)

@Akinas86,

After the initial 1 mana, it is infinite unless stopped.

Yup, pretty hard to stop. Mana abilities don't use the stack so you can't respond to it untapping - thus, you can keep using it's tap to damage ability as many times as you want (i.e. however many it takes to kill your opponent) before passing priority to allow things to resolve.

However, once you have passed priority, there are still ways of stopping it after everything has been put on the stack.

A Sudden Shock on the Pila Pala will kill it, and you can't respond by pinging things. Once it's dead, you can redirect some of the damage abilities still on the stack, or prevent the damage somehow (e.g. with Auriok Replica).

Mana abilities don't use the stack; meaning you don't have to wait.

Yes, as I said in the beginning, split second is essentially the only thing that can stop this. Auriok Replica wouldn't work because the moment you put the ability on the stack, I can respond by putting more damage on top of the stack (and kill you before your ability has a chance to resolve).

I meant you you use the Auriok Replica's ability after killing Pili-Pala with the Sudden Shock, thus you wouldn't be able to add more damage.

Still, not a bad combo :)

For more robustness in a deck you could add Grand Architect for it's infinite mana combo - go red/blue and add Fireball type spells in case you're unable to get a Heremetic Study (or power of fire, etc.) out.
