For this to work, you can't be the player with the first turn (or it won't work on your first turn).

Play Mountain, tap.
Cast Lotus Petal and sac.
Cast Pretic Ritual
Cast Seething Song

Cast Banneret for 2
Cast another for 1
Cast Grinning Ignus for 1

Pay one to return Ignus to your hand and gain 3 mana. Repeat any number of times, cast grapeshot and deal that much damage to opponent(s).

Victory. First turn, all commons (with infinite mana to spare).

Unfortunately, this does not work unless you have a way to turn colourless mana into Red mana. You have to pay (R) play the Ignus, and another (R) in order to use it's ability (this second (R) is paid back by the ability though).

What this engine gives you is effectively (R): Add (2) to your mana pool.

since tempest, the exiled version was made a mythic but the orginal was common

I know, but I barely do count it as common, considering how powerful it is. Black Lotus is also a common.

Good correction :(

Black Lotus was always a rare if I'm not mistaken. And if Lotus Petal really needed a replacement, Simian Spirit Guide works just as well.
