dredge isn't a pay mana ability. It is a mill yourself ability.

wat i min here is you can dredge and bring back the card u dredge to top of the library....

dredge puts the card in your hand for self mill. It works very well here because once you hit 4 critters in your graveyard the crossroads will start to bring one back. You just have to recast the 4/4 each turn.
