Use the schoolmaster and his spawn to get the 1 mana or counter. If they try to keep paying you just use Ertai to counter. If they don't you get 1 more spawn.

This one seems a little more worth it. and Intruder alarm (my favorite combo card) does have synergy with this as well. sounds like it world make any opponant concede as soon as they know whats happening.  haaaaa! unless they have an answer for it (tons of those.).

how about paradise mantle; intruder alarm; and lullmage mentor? now u'd have unlimited mana; unlimited merfolk; and unlimited counterspells.

Intruder Alarm in play + Lifespark Spellbomb targeting a Forbiden Orchard = Infanant mana of any color. Use it to cast Mind Spring drawing your whole deck. What about all those pesky spirit creature that went into play under your opponants control? !Echoing Truth!

Patron Wizard is amazing. It seems overlooked. Especially with things like Merrow Commerce.
