I would suggest Crucible so you have an advantage after the Armageddon.

Maybe imn not seeing it but don't see how but other then protction from counters don't see how the city will help either way.
Reason I say either way is I see two possiblilities with this combo
1 you animate your own lands sac them and your creatures to the alter for mana and then nuke the whole board back to the start only with you having a lot of mana in your pool to play something. If this isw the route life/death is cheaper and will do the same thing, though you can't destroy their hand as well as the empress can. Risky though, if they manage to drop a land they can do something to level the field crucible could be a good add on
option 2 is to target your opponent with the emperess. As long as you have the same or less land you will not need to sac land but when you go to sac creatures assuming yours were sacced to the altar they would have to sac all their creatures and all their lands. Personally I like this option better especially since it can go off with 5 mana if you use that as the top of your curve you'll be in good shape.
