No.

Tap the Benthicore to put a token and 2 merfolk into play. Tap the two merfolk to untap the  original Benthicore. You end up with infinite untapped Benthicore tokens and infinite tapped merfolk tokens.

I get it. Very nice. I thick Scion of the Wild, and Blunt the Assault would be good with this.

Summoning sickness, or the need for haste, only applies when a creature just comes into play and it trfys to tap for the attack or to play its own tap ability.
When you are tapping things to pay for the cost of another objects ability, Such as the case here summoning sickness doesn't apply. So this is works fine
