Ulasht needs to come into play with 2 counters to go off.

Equip scythe to Ulasht. Ulasht pings self. Sac to altar. Ping self, make token, sac. Ping self, make tokens, sac. Build up infinite mana, counters, and tokens... Steal all your opponent's creatures, & so forth. Yay.

If you have 3 counters you can even drop the alter and still work. The alter makes it better, but still good. There may be a cost to consider if you have to transfer the sythe back to hateseed after you jack one of there creatures.

Altar is what makes it infinite, not just "better"

The scythe causes a creature that was hit by hateseed and dies on the same turn to come back into play with the scythe attached to it. If Hateseed hits itself and then dies it comes back into play with the scythe attached to it. It brings itself back.

He would make a great general in EDH along with this combo!

Someone posted an EDH deck with Ulasht recently. I can't remember whom though.

Yep. In Ulasht EDH you only need one counter to go off since that's all you need for infinite generic, then you can recast Ulasht from the command zone if you've got a red and green source on the loop after you want to put another sapling into play.

What would that do? You'd be better off with Fires of Yavimaya or some sort of finisher, but the board position you get is very resilient to removal, so waiting a turn usually isn't a problem

Hm, so perhaps I haven't explained the combo enough?

Ok, so with the above 3 cards and Ulasht entering the battlefield with 2 counters (we'll go with Vexing Shusher on the battlefield for example's sake) here's how you actually go infinite:

Setup: Start with Vexing Shusher, Ashnod's Altar, and Scythe of the Wretched on the battlefield. Play Ulasht. Ulasht comes into play with 2 counters on him. Equip Ulasht with the Scythe.

1.) Infinite Mana: Ping Ulasht with Ulasht's ping ability. This sets up Scythe to recur Ulasht for 1 mana. Sacrifice Ulasht to Ashnod's Altar to gain 2 mana. Ulasht will then come back into play with Scythe attached to it and 2 counters. Everything's the same, except you gained 1 mana. Repeat as much as you like.

2.) Infinite Tokens/Counters: Ping Ulasht with Ulasht's ping ability. Then, create a saproling token with Ulasht's token creation ability. Ulasht will be kept alive with Scythe's pump, so you can then sacrifice Ulasht to Ashnod's Altar to recover your 2 mana. Ulasht will come back into play with Scythe attached. Everything's the same, except you gained 1 saproling token, and Ulasht comes into play with 1 more counter.

3.) Steal Everything: Generate infinite generic mana and infinite counters on Ulasht using the 2 above effects. Then, ping an opponent's creature until it's dead. It will come back into play under your control with Scythe attached. You have infinite generic mana, so you can re-equip Ulasht. Repeat to your heart's content.

So there you have it. I hope that clears up any confusion on the combo. :)

Incidentally, here's my EDH list for anyone curious:

I will probably be updating it later this weekend, as there are some minor changes.
