Without the kicker you will get a copy of each creature in play.  With the kicker it really gets fun 5x every creature in play under your control.  There  are some other cards that can make this even crazier. (Making on of the copies target ink-treader again) Divert & Quicksilver Dragon are 2 examples.

I know this combo is very mana heavy and can be difficult to pull off. It is easiest in an all color deck with huge mana acceleration.  Cards like all Prismatic Omen can also help.

Yea but you control those copies.  That is half the reason it owns so much.
