Have the priestess out for a turn and then cast wirewood symbiote and shield of velis vel (making creatures you control elves - among other things). This allows you to return the symbiote to your hand in order to untap the priestess. You will gain surplus mana accordingly.

Shields of Velis Vel only turns creatures that are in play at the time of casting into every creature type. A creature that is returned to you hand, then recast is a new creature, and therefore only is normal creature type.

The spell is modifying the characteristics of creatures under a player's control. Wouldn't new creatures that come into play also be affected by this effect?

Like playing a spell that says, "Until end of turn, creatures you control get this effect"

no because the shields is a 1 time effect and works by changeing the text of the creatures in the field at the time of resolution, so a creature who comes in later won't have that text change. 

just through in a runed stalaticite (sp) you can afford the equip with all the mana you'll generate

Chances are if you are running Priest of Titania, you are playing an Elf deck so no need for Shields...

I was over-thinking this combo too. If you have the insect, the priestess and two other elves that cost one mana, you make the difference and gain the infinite mana.
