As long as this artifact is untapped, each spell that would cost less than three mana to cast costs three mana to cast. (Additional mana in the cost may be paid with any color of mana or colorless mana. For example, a spell that would cost {1}{B} to cast costs {2}{B} to cast instead.)

I like this one. I just want to be sure and have all 4 casting cost spells in my deck i guess.

who what now you pay for chalice's X as 3 so that all spells with <font size="4" color="Blue>CMC? Even if you cast a spell for 3, it doesn't mean it's CMC is also 3... I think the term for what you're talking about is casting cost... and not Converted Mana Cost... there's a big difference...

This wouldn't work, the chalice counters spells of a specific converted mana cost. The trinisphere only increases the cost that must be payed to cast the spell, not the converted mana cost of the spell.

I'm not sure. The rulings on Gatherer don't specify it.

ephemerance is correct, here is the ruling,

202.3. The converted mana cost of an object is a number equal to the total amount of mana in its mana cost, regardless of color.

Example: A mana cost of {3}{U}{U} translates to a converted mana cost of 5.


Trinsphere forces you to pay at least 3 but does not change the mana cost


202.4. Any additional cost listed in an object’s rules text or imposed by an effect isn’t part of the mana cost. (See rule 601, “Casting Spells.”) Such costs are paid at the same time as the spell’s other costs.
