The staff goes on the cauldron. Sac the spawn form growth spasm repeatedly. It's stupid, but funny.

The staff doesn't go on anything:

If an Equipment becomes a creature, it can no longer equip a creature. If it's currently attached to a creature, it becomes unattached (but remains on the battlefield). You can activate the Equipment's equip ability, but it won't do anything.

You will need a different way of animating the Cauldron before attaching the staff.

EDIT: Also read the rest of your combo, it too does not work. The Spawn token will cease to exist the moment it hits the 'yard and will not return to play with Persist. You need Wild Cantor or similar for this bit.

and i would scrap the growth and put cantor and gaea' s anthem
