Play the needle. call out whatever. put it back into your hand for whatever. darksteel colossus, platinum angel, inkwell leviathan. then play it again and lock some other card down. Sick i know.

Pithing needle doesnt say that the cards abilities can be activated after pithing needle leaves play so I dont know the exact ruling on that.

once Pithing Needle leaves play the card you gimped can be used again

that is correct.  if there is no card/token in play affecting a card, then  it wont be affected.  much like playing an enchantment that gives all your creatures haste wouldnt keep giving your creatures haste when it left play.

however, transmuting the needle allows you to be more flexible in your lockdowns.

No, because Gwafa Hazid is what prevents the creatures from attacking/blocking.  Not the counters themselves.
