By tapping all your lands with chimeric idol, scoria cat becomes 6/6 creature, you avoid damage from citadel of pain and well of life gives you life.

by casting spells, yes, but when you're out of cards you can't tap without forcing yourself to lose life? Tapping lands without using the mana will cause damage to yourself?

no it won't mana burn has been removed from the game, making this rather weak

Citadel of Pain still has uses, because it mean that if you want to have mana open for when you defend, you have to take damage for it.
