Wouldn't the 'unblockable' effect no longer be on Bloodthrone Vampire the second you power it up?

after blocker is declared, you may play activated abilities of creatures, thus making your critter a monster, sac tokens, or whatever after your opponent declares not to block a 2/2, and whammo game over

nice cheap combo though... a couple of commons and standard no less. Black/Red I would add eldrazi spawn makers.
