It only takes creatures. Also, what would happen if you returned the enchantment?

Gatherer:- The control effect applies so long as at least one Aura is attached to the creature, and will continue to apply even if Rootwater Matriarch has left the battlefield. The effect ends if at any time the creature has no Auras on it.

cant you just add a second enchantment so that you can return that whip silk to your hand then?

Then you would need an enchantment for every creature you take. Might as well cast the second enchantment on the creature instead of whip silk.
