You can't tap the land for mana. its just a shrouded expanse the enchantment will die when you use its ability.

Yup, what Twogun said. Terramorphic Expanse doesn't have a Mana Ability, so the extra mana part of Trace doesn't do anything.

It would still have Shroud though.

If the expanse somehow gained a mana ability, e.g. via Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth turning it into a Swamp, then Trace will kick in and give an extra mana. (note this is because being a Swamp grants it the ability 'Tap: add B to your mana pool')

The enchantment would fall off as you sac it and do nothing.

I'm finding more and more lately that many players can't differentiate between land and mana. I frequently hear people saying Dark Ritual gives them 3 Swamps and that Rampant Growth gives them a mana of any color. I think maybe it's time wizards brought back the old-style lands which actually had the tap ability on them.

I agree, at least for the core set lands - though maybe make it reminder text (as the ability is granted because it has a basic land type).

Oh yeah, I've heard people say that Rite of Flame adds 2 Mountains, then start searching their libraries.
