Niv-Mizzet, Child of Korlis and Yawgmoth\'s Bargain in play, cast angel\'s grace... pay life all you want to draw... when your life is less than 1, target niv-mizzet\'s triggered ability to yourself. this will bring your life back to 1, then pay 1 life to draw again, target Niv-mizzet to you again... repeat... sacrifice child to gain the total life you lost which apparently would be greater than the cards you drew because of the paying life and the damage that niv mizzet dealt to you...

This is a great combo, but you would only gain 20 life (or whatever your total was before you damage yourself to trigger angel's grace) because angel's grace uses a replacement text, so instead of losing life, it goes to one. You wouldn't have actually lost any more than 20.


I'm not entire sure if Angel's grace can increase your life from a zero to a one though, I think it works on the basis of on the condition something tries to bring your life below one, the life will be brought down only to one. But from the flip side, if it's already at zero, it won't increase to one.

I'm not entirely sure on that though. I could be wrong.


It's still fantastic for dealing a clear 20 damage to your opponent (drawing 20 cards) and then stocking up your life back to 20.

I think it would work... when your life total is 1, Yawgmoth's Bargain will bring your life to 0 (this will not trigger angel's grace)... then Niv-Mizzet's damage would bring your life to -1 which is less than 1 triggering angel's grace which brings your life back to 1... rinse and repeat...

Its pay life vs damage. pay life causes life loss, not damage. That means angel's grace doesn't stop you form going negative. Even with things like wonder, or angles grace many black self life loss cards can kill you. Angel's grace just keeps you form loosing the game when your life goes below 1. Since you gain it back before the end of turn you live.

I'm just not sure it can be increased to one. If the card said "your lifetotal becomes one instead" I would completely agree that the combo would work, but because it says "reduced to one instead" I don't know whether it would trigger properly (because you would be trying to increase the life total to one). I'm not sure though, it just makes me wonder why they would specifically say "reduced to one" rather than "becomes one"

ok let me try to clear this up

basically you can pay any amount of life up until you have 0 life, then it stops, you can not go into the negatives with paying for the bargin as once you hit 0 you have nothing to pay with

once at 0 niv does his damage to you, nothing happens, you do not die due to angels grace nor do you go back to 1 (reason being is damage is not reducing you below 1 if you are already below 1 so the replacement effect doesn't trigger), you stay at 0

sac the children to get your life back, or more life depending where when niv did his damage
