I will start out by saying that the only TRULY necessary cards for this combo are:
Dross Scorpion
Soul Foundry
Arcbound Worker (although any 0-1 casting cost artifact creature will work, i use arcbound worker for the sake of the modular counters.)

That being said, the 3 different Altars are useful in one way or another. If youre using a 0 casting cost artifact creature like ornithopter then you most likely wont be able to feed it to the altar of dementia.

So here is how this thing works:
(1)You put down your Dross Scorpion, then your Soul Foundry, imprinting the arcbound worker on it.
(2)Next you activate the foundry for 1, making your awesome Arcbound Worker of Doom.
(3)Now comes the part where you sacrifice your Arcbound Worker to make some free mana. I prefer the Ashnods Altar, but i play older formats, you may prefer or know something more recent (its critical that whatever you use doesnt require you to tap it or have a cost, other than sacrificing an artifact or a creature.)
(4)Now, take your Modular counter and place it on your favorite soon-to-be-beatstick.
(5)With the Arcbound Worker's death, you now have 1-2 mana, depending on the card you used, AND his death untapped the foundry, AND made something bigger.
(6)Repeat as often as necessary.

Discussion Points:

*Using this combo with Ashnods Altar will net you infinite mana.
*If you throw in Altar of Dementia with this, thats when you take your creature that you have been buffing to high heaven and sacrifice it to mill your opponents entire Library at once.

Feel free to give me feedback. Ive posted this on another site, but the admin there stole the idea and posted it as his own. I dont post my combos there anymore lol
