Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that this locks down you as well. You can still win if you play more lands though. (^_^)

Sorry dude, this doesn't work.  Activated abilities can't be played, however, mana abilities can always be played. Regardless of whether the land is a creature or not, it can still produce its respective mana.

Yea Skybreak is right, it's still a land which can produce it's own mana, even though it's also a creature, mana producing is not an activated ability. Good thinking though :)

Skybreak/Arcanis, sorry you are both wrong,  this combo is a lock down

While you are right that lands have mana abilities, mana abilities are still activated abilites (basic lands have the inherit text of T:add this mana symbol to your mana pool.)  The difference that seperates mana abilitys from other activated abilitys is that they do not use the stack as a result they can not be countered or responed to.

Playing an ability is the same as casting a spell the first step is declaring your intent to play the ability is the first step,  which you can not do with the totem, because of this rule

602.5. A player can’t begin to activate an ability that’s prohibited from being activated.

as a result lands can't be tapped for mana

As for the combo the fact  that you are locked down as well makes it kind of pointless, unless you go for artifacts for your mana such as the signets

Well, you can always use Necropotence and slowly deck your opponents out... It is  the most annoying win-con in my opinion...
