I mean, even if Phage isn't in play but you know your opponent has it in their deck, you can force them to lose, regardless of whether it is currently in play or not.
Play with Phage in your deck, and risk losing.

Ephemerance you need to think more like a spike player to understand the beauty of phage as a card (not so much the art work).
