using the stack the copy would reslove before the spell. Sac the copy in response to it entering the battlefield. Thornbite triggers and goes on the stack. Tornbite resolves. Spiketail resolves. If they pay then you do it again.

When a token is sacrificed, it never goes into the graveyard; it is simply removed from play. Thus the thornbite staff is never activated.

tokens go to the graveyard unless otherwise specificed. Sacing a token sends it to the graveyard. The thing you are thinking of is the fact that most tokens that exist "till end of turn" say exile them at end of turn, which is what the card final judgment does, as opposed to wrath of god's "destroy" tokens don't exist in the graveyard, but can be sent to the graveyard. check http://www.ebbemunk.dk/magic/index.html 110.5e. Because a token can go to the graveyard this works. A token can't be in the graveyard thus presist wouldn't work.

Correct, tokens go to the graveyard, but they don't remain there for any period of time.

And most spells or abilties that make a token "till end of turn" don't send them to the graveyard, but rather "exile" them. They intend to not trigger the leaving play effects of most cards by doing so. The trick is being able to sac the token to effect, and therefor adding in going to the graveyard effect.
