wouldn't all the damage also kill the 0/1 though?

it would, but in a short game, all you need is just enough to take down the walls once to destroy your opponent.

Adding something to save the elf is optional.

Yeah you may want to put a Timberwatch elf, but you'll need a lot of elves in play, maybe a regeneration would be nice :P
