Aren't there cards that deal 1 damage to all you opponants creatures or you opponnts w/o have to prevent to yourself?

Yes, but most don't give you the control over the timing like pestilence.

I actually got the Pestilence/Armor idea from a pre-con deck that came out back in the day, I believe during the Urza's sets, that used Pestilence along with some pro-black, high toughness, and en-kor creatures. I only play casually, so I love combos like this.
