Title: Planeswalker help

A friend and I had an argument over Violent Ultimatum, which says "Destroy three target permanents" So I chose two of his islands and his planeswalker card, Jace Beleren, when I played it. He says that Jace isn't a permanent and that Jace counts as a player, but my rules booklet says otherwise. Is there a ruling on planeswalker's that prevent me from targeting them with my violent ultimatum? If so could someone share this information with me, please?

I am not 100% certain, but I believe your friend may be correct.

"Sources can deal damage to planeswalkers. If a spell or ability you control would deal damage to an opponent, you may have it deal that damage to a planeswalker that opponent controls instead. So while you can't target a planeswalker with a Shock, you can have a Shock that targets your opponent deal 2 damage to one of his or her planeswalkers instead of to the player."

You cannot choose target player to be destroyed and then re-direct it to the Planeswalker, and the Planeswalker can only have damage re-directed with spells like Shock.

Your friend is wrong, the planeswalker is still a permanant in play, meaning that the ultamatum can still target and destroy it.
