Title: was magic more fun when you were worse

It seems to me that when I was worse at magic the games were much more even and less one person wins and one person loses.

Yes and no, me and my buddy play about 3 hours every week average, that’s about 14 games a week, currently we have played 159 games sins xmes and the score is 56% win vs 44% win. It’s about 12 minutes per game. some games take 5 min and some take 30, depends. But when I was younger the games used to take from 15 - 45 min. but it’s always fun if u are at the same skill level as ur opponent.

For me Magic has been fun at all my levels and weither my opponent is at my level above or below, has been irrelevent.  Its a social game that strechs the mind, you and your buddys all chilling around a table playing cards drinking beer having a grand old time.  Even at tournaments most people are just talking having fun.  There are only 2 times I get unhappy playing magic 1st is when my opponent is one of those people who gets an attitude when you do something they don't like,  and then if they lose there all like "I would've won if you didn't destroy my such and such" well yeah no crap thats why I destroyed such and such.  And the 2nd time is when my opponent is one of those people who tries to brag about stuff but leaves out the details. case in point there was this one guy i played and our match finished in a draw and he sat there afterwards with his friends and i heard him say "yeah its a good deck, this guy couldn't beat it even though he got off elspeth's ultimate"  I just sat there an looked at him and said you going to tell them the rest" not a word from him, so I was like he was a 4 life I had 38 and the only reason I dont win is we ran out of time because I let him take a piss during the match.  People like that piss me off if your going to brag about your playing at least have something solid to brag about.

Oh when i'm mana screwed thats not fun either

I am always having fun while playing MtG and I mean always even if I'm mana screwed or losing... That's part of the game...

The only reason I countine to have fun with magic, is that I have so many decks, so I pretty much play a different style each game.

For me now like 75% of the games I play one of us is mana screwed or just gets owned. Also, the people who i'm better than suck really bad, they are like how good was a few years back, and there aren't any people better than me I know (from lack of people not mad skill). The closest card shop is in a different town and I'm only 14 so I don't play there.

i used to play with a 3 color coldsnap deck trying to be a 10th edition deck(due to lack of skill and cards)

magic for me as always been fun except when i tried to play competitively simply b/c i was playing the "good" cards instead of the cards that i most enjoyed. Now that I'm back to playing for fun and not to win a tourny it is SO much more fun.

Mtg seems less fun for me these days. It's like the feeling of playing a card isn't as cool as it once was. I used to be content to play grizzly bears and Craw Wurms (And it seemed cool, picture a druid in a strange green cloak waving his arms and seeing a giant wurm burst forth from below.) Nowadays I just look at the newer cards and feel stupid for playing with older cards.

yeah, the eldrazi just arn't as cool as the old powerhouses, like Cloudscraper
