Prerelease was awesome! Got my Crumbling Vestige and Wastes (I wasn't leaving without either and cracked both).

Gloating aside:
Thanks to the "<>" symbol, or "C" as oracle calls it, things in EDH might be looking a little hazy. On a positive note, Rule 4 was dropped, so now a Birds of Paradise in a monogreen commander can generate any of the original five colors, instead of just G. Which leads us to two big questions:

1) Can I use Wastes in my otherwise deck with a (mono/multi)colored commander?
A: Yes. You can use as many as you like, since they are basic lands, but be advised that while they have the supertype "basic" they have no subtype (like how Forest and Savannah both have the subtype "forest", or how the guildgates are "gates"). They don't count towards domain, would never count for sunburst or chroma, and its existence does not make Coalition Victory harder to achieve.

2) Can I use a creature/spell with only numbers and "<>"(s) in its mana cost in a deck with a (mono/multi)colored commander?
A: I'm pretty sure, but I'd like some confirmation on this.
Ornithopter is a card that has been colorless from day one. Moreso with Juggernaut which was actually printed in Alpha. These have been accepted in commander decks since their creation. Memnarch has not been allowed as a commander due to its blue mana in its activation costs HOWEVER it is still allowed in a deck running a (partially)blue commander.
Lastly, cards that used to produce 1,2, or even 3 mana when tapped now produce that much in "<>". These cards are still allowed in any deck. This change hasn't impacted their color identity, meaning that Thought-Knot seer can be in any commander deck, regardless of the deck's color identity.

The confirmation is yes. for pretty much the reasons you noted. the '<>" is colorless mana. since it lacks a color it doesn't go against the color identity established by a commander
by the way color identity is established by the colored symbols in the commanders cost and text box. so Rhys the exiled has a green/black identity. because of this Memnarch can be a commander with a blue identity.

Thanks for the clarification, gericault5. You were actually exactly who I was hoping to respond!

I didn't know about the trick with Memnarch, I thought he wasn't usable at all. I guess that explains why both him and Bosh have been in WotC commander precons though.
