So some cards are spoilered now (e. g. http://www.mtgsalvation.com/spoilers/149-magic-origins), what are your expectations about the set, the pricing of cards, the playability and so on?
Will you buy some displays or are there to much reprints inside?

The main allure is of course the planeswalkers. All are third turn playable and can typically be transformed by turn five. However, the starting loyalty of only Jace and Chandra are above 3. Since Chandra can easily be activated turn four, played turn three, and has 4 starting loyalty, I believe it will make her the most sought for planeswalker. I am unsure of whether Jace or Gideon will be in second. The new vampire uncommon (the one with the built-in-pseudo-Blade-of-the-Bloodchief) looks really good, as does the warden. From the looks of it, blue and red is currently the main playable color combination, as Jace can fuel spell mastery and that dragon almost guarantees Jace's transformation, however that is relying on combos with at least one Mythic, so it is too early to stand strongly behind that choice.

This isn't so much a set for veterans, but a set to draw new people in to play. One of the cards was explaining flying. This is just like the comic books resets that have been happening and how all the comic book/videogame movies typically follow the hero's origin story with the first installation: to make newcomers aware and welcoming to the franchise's presence.

Gideon is actually turn 1 playable, in his 2/1 creature form. In the right casual deck, he could be transformed turn 2, but he just is not that good.

I actually care little about Gideon as a planeswalker in this set, mostly because I generally overlook planeswalkers during deck building. A first turn 2/1 that has future game potential as an indestructible 4/4 at it's least is definitely what I see. So it is not so much Gideon that I think will be good, but the Champion of Arkos.

What do we think about the Renown mechanic?
