I'm gonna keep a blog here for people who might be interested in becoming truckers.

So, I just got my license. Still steaming hot from the laminator from the DMV. Wouldn't you know it, before I even take a load, I get injured. First and last time I EVER drive a Volvo! Goddamn truck door hits my jaw and cracks it. Almost broke my jaw. Visible crack on X-Ray. So, I'm being sent home to recover before I go under my first load. Still getting paid though. wOOt!!

I am back on the road and making BANK!!! I'm a solo driver and make about $8,000 a week. If I went team, which I am considering, I would make about $12,000 a week. Please note, that is after taxes. I could buy my tractor in about 7 months. My truck is a 2013 Peterbilt 579. Black paint job, VERY spacious interior. I'm 6'1" and I can fully stand up in my truck. I use dual rims. Fuck those super singles. $1,800 per axle for super singles, or $800 per axle for duals. A little math here. My tractor has 3 axles with a total of 10 tires. 3x800=2400. 3x1800=5400. Which ones am I going to get? Plus, with the company I'm with, I don't pay for my fuel, which saves me a shit load of money. 2 150gal tanks with diesel being $4.09 where I live, filling my tractor would cost me $1227.00 I only need to refuel once when going cross country.

if you buy the truck, most operators will pay you more... but the downside is... that you would have to pay for any repairs or towing needed, and would be responsible for any spoiled loads (fridge trailers fail sometimes too) which could bankrupt you... i know someone it happened to... just be careful about how you do things

Which is why if when I buy my truck, I will only do dry loads for a while. Might even start my own fleet. I got a friend who just got his class a. Most companies will give you a fuel differential. They will, for the most part, try to keep your fuel cost to $2.50 a gallon. Still, it would cost about $750 to fill the tanks.
