Braid of FireIf mana burn as my understanding is is gone, this is the most broken card ever. Briad of Fire

Second Explain new blocking rules since it seems almost like all creatures now have banding?

And I seem to have a faulty understanding of protection from... so I would like a definition on that.

braid of fire-other then the lack of burn it plays the same as always its far from broken

protection can be summed up by the word DEBT standing for Damage, Enchant, Block, and Targeting.  If a source trys to do any of those things to something with protection from that source it won't happen

Blocking-basically a blocked creatures assigns its combat damage lethally to one creature first, then the next then the next and so on, it can not spread the damage out anymore.  is there a perticular aspect of blocking your confused about.

The main change to blocking is that the Attacking creature no longer assigns combat damage to individual creatures (i.e. 'damage on the stack' like in older versions)

Instead, the attacker chooses an order for all blocking creatures. When enough of the Attacker's damage is assigned to one creature, the rest 'spills over' to the rest.

After the attacker chooses the order of blockers, there is a step in which instants can be played. - at this point however the order of blockers is 'locked'.

Once both players have passes priority, damage is dealt and creatures die if necessary.

For example, you attack with a 4/4 and the defender blocks it with 2x 2/2 creatures.

In the previous rules, you would go to the combat assignment step. You could split the 4/4's damage between both blockers, and each of those would deal 2 back.

In the current rules, the attacker says which blocker is first. The attacking creature deals damage to it until it has dealt lethal damage, then moves onto the next one.

The major differences are:

* You can no longer put damage on the stack, then sacrifice your creature and still have it deal combat damage

* If the defender has toughness-boosting instants, they can potentially save more creatures.

Back to the previous example. This time the defending player has an instant which gives a creature +0/+5 until end of turn.

Under old rules, they could play it either before or after damage assignments. Assuming they wait until after, the attacker would probably assign 2 damage to each blocker. The defender could cast the spell to boost the toughness of one of the creatures and save it, but the other one would still take 2 damage and die.

Under the new rules, the attacker has to order the blocking creatures. In this case the defender can cast their instant on the first creature in line, pumping it to 2/7 - the attacking creature does not deal enough damage to kill it, so none spills over to the second creature - thus saving both blockers.

you can only use the mana to play instants, mana pools still empty when you move into a new phase so you can't use that mana to play a sorcery like banefire unless you give it flash.  that is why it is not broken

There is an instant version of fireball right? I think it requires XRR to cast...
