When reading through the second Legends cycle, that was the first mention of Nicol Bolas being more than just and Elder Dragon Legend. Years later (a decade?) he shows up as a planeswalker card.

My mind went back to the book "The Thran". In it, Yawgmoth is shown what becomes Phyrexia and in the center sphere (if my memory serves me correctly) is the corpse of a dead dragon, used as the body of the last planeswalker.

Ending there would assume that the planeswalker is dead, however in the Artifacts cycle, Urza tries to break into (and through) Phyrexia. He gets to the fourth sphere before he has to abort and he stays as a column of light for... a week, months? It is made more important in Apocalypse when Gerrard beheads Urza with a soul cutting blade, since otherwise Urza could just grow back. It should also be pointed out that even though Urza was but a head, he was still alive, thus the rest of his body was left there "dead".

Which goes back to that dragon corpse. Did the dragon planeswalker let its body die and shift to another form (possibly Nicol  Bolas)?

"A planeswalker has complete control over his or her physical appearance..." - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planeswalker
I know that this isn't the greatest source, being Wiki, but hell, I'd say you may be right.
