Title: Any thoughts on this?

I was looking at ghost quarter recently and was wondering why it isn't used often. The way I saw it, looked like it could be used to crop rotation a basic if no other options were available, and it could also be as powerful as strip mine if used correctly. What do you all think about this land?

Damn my thought-full brain! Forcing me to lose the best number of comments you can have. :C

Anyways I can tell you it's not used in constructed because it slows you down, which isn't worth getting rid of someone's Nephalia Drownyard, even if it will eventually win them the game. Currently there are no lands aside from Kessig Wolf Run that allow someone to win on the spot, and even that usually takes a few turns.

The way standard is right now, Jund and Naya aren't on the level of Bant Auras, BUT that could easily change with all of the awesome red from GTC. Even with R/G getting better in the format, it's unlikely control players will use it just because land bases are extremely tight. There's also the near-fact that anyone running the wolf run will run more than one wolf run(!!!), which makes the trade pretty useless.

There're my thoughts about Ghost Quarter in standard. Most of those ideas can be applied to Modern as well. In EDH Ghost Quarter is used when people don't have Wasteland or Strip Mine, or in dedicated LD decks. I have little experience with Legacy, Vintage and Extended so I have no idea about it's usage in those formats.

What I was somewhat suggesting was that it be used outside of standard in such a way as strip mine was until banned in legacy. But generally speaking, if you were to run a three to five color deck and you were missing a color to pull something off while you had plenty of another land type needed, you could sac your own land to play one if a different color to pull it off. Or if you were running two colors but only one was in hand. Or better yet, sac it to destroy itself so you don't lose a land in the process. Generally speaking, do you think it could work?
