Title: NEED ADVICE ... AND/OR HELP....lol

Hey all, I'm new to the site but advid viewer. This is my first post, but not my last. I will continue to make more decks and would like to hear what everyone would like to say.  I had built a deck and would like some advice or help to improve or help make this deck more powerful. Bear in mind, my friends and I do play "vintage" (we are all on a budget..lol), and I created this with cards I have at the moment.... any and all opinions are gratuitis..

If I played the deck I'd run 2-3 wurmcoil engines to go with the eldrazi temple

What is the focus of the deck? you seem to have mill and beats but neither seems defined. 
 You have a lot of interactions but with only 1 or 2 cards odds are you won't see them, which makes them kind of pointless.  Take for example crucible, without drawing 1 of the two strip mines its a dead card (though I suppose you can always traumatize yourself for a pseudo ramp). Since you only have 2 humans most of the time Ravnous demon would be a 4/4 vanilla for 5, and even if you do flip it how to pay the cost, and humans are to common for it to be a solid switcheroo target.  For 5 mana Ghastlord of the fugue, Darna, Bloodchief, djinn of wishes might be better options.
Haunting echoes works well with traumatize, but what if you don't match them, your not going to have enough in your opponents grave to make the 5 mana worth while. 
Majority of your cards are over 4 mana but you only have 19 mana sources (not including rits) how does that work for you, especially with the triple B's?

But never mind that, SUGGESTION TIME!!!
First of all, WTF is the point of the deck? screw their lands with Crucible/Mine? Control into Eldrazis? Life Drain? Personally, a pile of good cards does not always win games. make up your mind on a theme is what i think you should start with.

@ spiderman1100 - I don't have this card but i am defintely looking into adding these... but which would they replace?? as for the dark rits... wouldnt it help in to bring out the biggers or 2 card combo quicker? (provided that they are in hand)

@ gericult5 - I totally agree with you. this happens to be my biggest flaw. i tend to run 2 - 3 differ themes and dont fully define them. which in case, I will assume to take out the specific cards (i.e.- crucible, strip, ravnous, etc.) and run it as a beat deck. will try my luck with that. with the mentioned cards would you have any suggestions as to what else is a good play?

@shmogi - as I told Gericult5, I agree with you....(but i was totally forgetful on the 1 strip mine rule)

Ok so you want to go with beats.  Basically you have two options with that route 1) quick low costing threats with control dealing with their response to your threats  2)  use control magic to stall the game until you have the mana to drop one of larger beats.  While I'm personally not a fan of number 2, your deck is leaning in that direction already, so might as well work with that. Here is what I would do and I kept my suggestions at budget



  • 2 Alchemist's Apprentice – it’s a solid card, good blocker and can net you a card I would up to 4
  • 2 Artisan of Kozilek – personally I think its overrated, it can be chumped and removed/bounce for the mana cost you want something with more staying power.  Sphinx of Jwar Isle is a good option it has evasion and will take mass removal to deal with it if it sticks.  I would switch them
  • 2 Bloodhunter Bat – I would lose for the other 2 alchemists apprentice
  • 1 Gaurd Gomazoa – I would up the count to 3 replacing the wall of blood below
  • 1 Massacre Wurm – he can stay
  • 2 Mist Raven – bouncing a creature is good, however, controlling your draws would be more beneficial in this deck I would switch it out for sage owl
  • 2 Nezumi Graverobber – switch out for two more sage owls
  • 1 Ravenous demon – for the reasons mentioned above he can go.
  • 1 Reaper from the Abyss – he can stay, changing some of the spells below can offer more morbid options
  • 1 Sakashima's student – copying others always fun, but it might be better sideboard
  • 2 Wall of blood –replace with the guard
  • Revised creature count -- 16
 
  • -Spells-
  • 2 Crucible of worlds – lose and add two more rits.
  • 2 Dark Ritual  -- see above
  • 2 Disperse  -- bounce good
  • 2 Essence Harvest – if you get a beat out it will be beneficial, but keep it at two no point getting to many in your hand at once without the beat. 
  • 1 Exquisite blood – lose, without a constant life gain its useless
  • 1 Haunting Echoes – as mentioned above lose this
  • 1 Howling mine – I like card draw, but not for my opponent, especially since it will take time to build up your mana no reason to help them out
  • 1 Icy Manipulator – lose better to remove permantly then tap
  • 1 Panoptic Mirror – comes to late, especially as a 1 of
  • 2 Peel from Reality – ideally you’ll hit the sage owls if you make that switch
  • 2 Rite of Consumption – As with essence harvest it is beneficial, if you get a beat, but you don’t need both especially with  the sac as you won’t use it while your winning
  • 2 Switcharoo – your not going to give up your beats nor your early defense-switch for some doom blades or go for the throat
  • 2 Time Warp – I am going back and forth about this, double turns is always a good thing, but you will need more control options to buy you time.  So I would lose them
  • 1 Traumatize – bye bye
  • 2 Unsommon – ok



If you make these switches you are left with 14 open slots.  I’ll leave it up to you on how to fill them
but I would look at removal and control. 
4 copies of recoil would be great as would mana leaks.  I would also leave 3 slots open for stitch
together, with the control spells odds are you will get threshold easily

@ gericault - thanks a million with your suggestions. you are awsome. I am so loving how this deck is playing. great it im still a few cards shy from the list... but holy hell I am now a serious fan of beat decks..lol.. as you and everyone else suggested i am going to keep a one theme and define it. my next deck will be a control/ destroy. lets see how i fair in that build...... keep you posted.

@ spiderman1100 - i did add the wurm... lol.. the peoples faces when they pop up.. great call for that add in..

@ shmogi -  thank you for the brutal honesty.. will always keep what you say in mind when im building a deck..lol
