As I'm sure the majority of you know, Return to Ravnica has been out for almost a month.

There is one card that I didn't get a chance to use, but it is quite possibly the best reason to start playing green and it isn't getting much love.

We've all been there. You have great things in your hand but you are just ONE mana short. So you play this guy and next turn, it gets you the mana YOU NEED. It doesn't have to be green, it gives you any color! You can use this on opponents' turns too!
The sweetest thing about it is that when it runs out of mana to give you, it returns to your hand so you can load it up and use it again.

If I had one of these back in 1995, I would have leaned towards green through all these years.

Cast it turn 2 for a turn 3 Bloodbraid Elf or whatever, bring it back, cast it again for let's say Sigarda, and it comes back again. I love it.

Honestly, I can see why it's not getting much love. Sure, this would have been a well used card a decade ago, but what does it do now?

At the cost of at least 2, it can produce one additional mana of any color a turn. Alright, not bad, but stop and compare it to Chromatic Lantern. At a cost of 3 (colorless by the way), it can still produce additional mana of any color a turn, and gives that same ability to all of your lands. In most scenarios, people who could use the Mana Bloom will be equally satisfied if not more satisfied with a Chromatic Lantern.

That's not to say Mana Bloom doesn't have its benefits. It's an enchantment rather than an artifact, and I'm sure we've picked up on the fact that enchantments are going to be important for the Ravnica Block. We've had several cards give benefits based on the enchantments you control, and though I'm not certain, I'd be willing to bet theres a greater percentage of enchantments in this set compared to your average Magic set. Also, Mana Bloom gets bounced to your hand to be recast when no counters are on it. For some EDH decks which give bonuses for casting enchantments (Verduran Enchantress, Mesa Enchantress, Sigil of the Empty Throne, Celestial Ancient, you get the picture) that can be a huge plus, and people may even cast it at x=0.

I won the match against the deck with the Mana Bloom while I was using Chromatic Lantern, but I will be quick to admit that I outmatched my opponent with the number of lands I had in play. He couldn't have done much of anything without putting out an early Mana Bloom. His problem was that he was two lands short of playing everything he needed. Mana Bloom stood in for one for several turns. If not for it, the game would have been over by my sixth turn.
