Title: Mechanical Tournament

With the recent mention of Cockatrice, I think that a tournament could be really fun. Of course, no tournament is complete without a little twist on deck construction, so I'm going to base this off of an old challenge issued by Gericault last year: Build a Mechanical Tribal deck.

The rules are as follows: Build a Tribal deck based on a non-basic mechanic rather then a creature.

1) A Tribal build means that 1/3 of the deck needs to be the tribe, or in this case the mechanic. So for a 60 card deck at least 20 cards have to have the mechanic

2) The mechanic chosen needs to be a non-basic, which means stay away from abilities common to most sets such as flying, fear, deathtouch, lifelink, reach, protection-you get the idea. Some acceptable mechanics are infect, proliferate, transmute, provoke, soulbond, exalted, morph, cycling, etc...

3) Some mechanics might not have enough cards to have 1/3, so cards which can specifically benefit from the mechanic can count toward the tribal. For example, Entangling Trap can count as a clash card.

4) Deck needs to be legacy legal

I think that giving people 5 days for deck construction should be sufficient. If people have suggestions on ways to improve the format of this tournament, I'm more than willing to adjust things. So the first round will be set to start this Sunday. Pairs will be given a week to plan out a match and play a best of 3 round with their partner, then report it onto this thread, so that the next weeks pairings can be made that following Sunday. If there is any questions about what's a legal Mechanic, ask away, and the people interested can judge whether or not that would be appropriate for this tournament.

As a final note, this tournament needs to be friendly. There's been a lot of angry comments and hurt feelings, and this is not the place for that sort of thing. I've been staying out of it as best I can, and I'd like to keep things that way.

I wonder how many people will choose Dredge...

With 20 dredge cards? 10 is normally max. I would say something stupid like flashback in a storm deck (looting, ravings, flames, vengeance, think twice?) Or transmute in a combo deck (2 & 3 mana cmc transmuters) with a rediculous combo.

Mind if I get in on this action...It's been awhile since we've had a Cockatrice Tournament...

And with that I'm off to make a bitchin' logo

Alright, so far, interested players are: TheCaptain, DyingJester, Gericault.

Skyborg and SirZapdos, were you also interested in playing? I wasn't entirely sure.

And for others, I know people like to flex their deck building muscles every now and then, this could be a good chance for those who's skills have been doubted in the past to show everyone what they can do. As long as it's done in a polite and respectful manner of course.

Hedsak, You wouldn't have to play on Sunday. Pairings will be made Sunday night, then you and your partner will have the whole week to figure out a time to meet on Cockatrice and play your best of three round. Pairings will be made Sunday at 8PM EST, and you'll have until the following Sunday at 8PM to do your match and report the results.

Ugh...eastern sea board. No thanks. I'm never doing that to myself again. Even though I have a tribal deck.

C'mon, i know a lot of people play on Cockatrice, there's got to be more people interested. Let's see it - I only want to give until 8:00pm EST tonight. But for those concerned about time zones (Kethju), you set up when you want to play with the person you're paired with, don't worry if you're in a different time zone. After all, you've got a whole week to play your match.

Apparently this isn't happening - So sorry, Gericault and DyingJester if you already put time into building decks.

For everyone else - if this type of tournament isn't to your liking, is there a type of tournament you would like to see? I think that a little healthy and friendly competition is good. Plus, it gives us a chance to see who can put all of these combos to good use in a real life situation.

As much as I like the odd deck building aspects straight up standard or edh would give a better turnout
