Okay...so after my budget deck building fiasco (Which pains me greatly). I am pleased to present my new list...

4 Odric, Master Tactician
4 Precinct Captain
4 Doomed Traveler
4 Attended Knight
4 Fiend Hunter
4 Oblivion Ring
2 War Falcon
22 Plains
4 Azorius Arrester
2 Ajani, Caller of the Pride
4 Increasing Devotion
2 Intangible Virtue
SB: 2 Nevermore
SB: 2 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
SB: 2 Intangible Virtue
SB: 2 Ghost Quarter
SB: 4 Rootborn Defenses

The Sideboard choices are hardly set in stone at this point. I'm anticipating a lot of Frites players. Simply because damn nearly everypony at my shop was a pretentious douche that played Caw-blade at some point...

F@#K YOU STONEFORGE! YOU AND YOUR PEACEFUL JEDI LOOKING @$$!

This is what I'm planning on taking to my next FNM...advice/ opinions would be greatly appreciated...this will be my first FNM since Innistrad ruined magic temporarily for me, forcing me to play another cardgame...

On the plus side the dragons were simply bitching...

Cathar's Crusade will give you an extra boost.

And Caw Blade? Bitch please. With or without Mind Sculptor or Stoneforge. Between my WU Tempered Steel which will out agrro it to the point where it's only hope is boardwipe and my Mono Red deck where it'll be over turn 5 I never was and am not now worried.

If you question whether these 2 decks will beat it then just ask and I will post forums with the decklists.

Your point is moot friend. No matter how good a deck build is, the end result will be based on the most popular deck in the region. Which is based on the most consistent build possible. Regardless of how your deck performs, the meta decks are there for their popularity. Hence Metagame.

No matter how good Tempered Steel was, Caw-blade was more consistent more often than not.

Therefore

Caw-blade = More consistent (X)

Tempered Steel = Less Consistent (Y)

A decks consistency determines how good it is..therefore...

X > Y  when it comes to consistency...then...

X > Y is a true statement.

Therefore  Caw-blade is still better than Tempered Steel, end of story.

I mean, I would take out the intangible virtues personally. I don't know if you have enough token producers to make it viable. The Thalia's seem far more relevant in their place, because then you would have only 10 non-creature spells, and it would help you get a more aggro approach. Here's what I'm thinking about it as it compares to other decks I've seen floating around:

BG Zombies - Yup, we know what this is, this is looking to me to be one of the most popular decks so far (at least where I've been playing and who I've faced online). So you're going to need some Rest in Peaces to keep those Zombies from coming back. No scavenge, no gravecrawler nonsense, no undying. Perhaps a Dryad Militant or 2 couldn't hurt either, though spells aren't as relevant to keep away as much as creatures are for them. An alternative to Rest in Peace: Grafdigger's Cage?

U/UW/UR...ok, any U and something control deck - First Tamiyo, now Jace? Throw in an uncounterable wipe, syncopates, detention sphere, a detain effect or 2, control is not as gone as people are saying (or hoping) it is. The planeswalkers are going to be a bitch, you can't do anything about it, Tamiyo taps down your large threats, and Jace will render those tokens useless. Thank god for O-ring. But Detention Sphere? You don't have a response that currently. My suggestion goes for Sundering Growth, which since its hybrid functions in a mono white deck. And for you thats a naturalize that can give you one more of your precious tokens. Perhaps also consider splashing green (the WG lands are the cheapest of all duals too I believe), to gain access to fliers removal, then also it will give you Gavony Township (which can help your tokens beat into jace).

I've seen a couple other competitive decks types floating around my shop and online (WG/WUG Blink, WRB tokens and vamps, UBG Planeswalkers) but they're kinda odd so I'm not sure what to even say about those. I think Control and ZOmbie Aggro are going to be the two match-ups you're going to see most consistently.

Nevermore...declaring...detention Sphere! MUHUAHHAAHH!

I just have to play around the sphere...and hold my cards proper...it really only works versus tokens as far as the sphere goes...

On the subject of grave recursion...you're correct...I need Rest in Peace.

Other Tempered Steel decks might lose to it but mine is different. I will now post a forum with the 2 decklists.

Fascinating...your argument is over an era that no longer exists...care to explain that?

I changed my mind. Rather than spend the strenuous time typing the dacklists I have a better idea. How about 2 Cockatrice matches to prove my point. One for each deck.

Your on. When i get home ill build a cawblade. Assuming we will limit the card pool to when cawblade ruled, that is zendikar, scars, and m12

@geri & Captain

Agreed. Although the one for my Tempered Steel will have to be Alara to M13 because of Master of Etherium and Tezzeret the Seeker.

Whoa Whoa, Tempered Steel can't inclue Alara. We're talking about Standard decks here, and Alara rotated out when Tempered Steel came in with Scars of Mirrodin. You'd have to do Zendikar through M12 otherwise it doesn't really work...

exactly, its no wonder you say you always beat caw-blade your opening yourself up to a much larger pool then caw has available your drawing from 16 sets while caw-blade only draws from 7.  your basically the 16 year old picking on the 7 yr.  big bully

now I'll build a UW deck within your card sets, but it won't be caw-blade.  Caw-blade was top of its day based on the pool it had available to it, but outside that pool there are much better options.  You want to claim to beat caw-blade you put yourself in that pool.

Only my Tempered Steel deck has cards from Alara. My mono red deck however is Zendikar and Scars blocks.

Then you should play the mono-red v caw-blade. Becuase there was a reason that that was the top deck. If your deck was better, other people would have figured it out too and played that instead.

The Rdw of the time couldnt hold a candle to cawblade. The arsenal of counters took care of the early and Once Sff was equiped that creature basically became indestructible and unblockable and quickly put rdw in top deck mode.

It almost seems unfair

Gericault,

I completely agree, that's why I'm so interested in seeing this magical Mono-Red deck that Nacinek cooked up that can apparently put Caw-Blade in its place. I'm not convinced, but I've heard about it so much, like everytime caw-blade's brought up, so that's why I want to see it.

I'm sending this back to the top again, I want to see this match-up between Narcinek and Gericault. Let's get a time and date for this.
