Title: Big Problem For Zombies

I am playing a mono black zombie deck, and while playtesting I found that I'm having a lot of trouble racing my opponent when he/she has a Mirran Crusader. I'm playing beatdown, so Black Sun's Zenith doesn't sound very appealing to me. Also, I want to stay on the zombie tribe as much as possible, as I have 4 Cemetery Reapers. So, all in all, how does a black beatdown deck beat/ race a Mirran Crusader?

By the way, I'm playing standard.

Now wait a moment. Back in the days when I started playing, standard consisted of the current edition, the latest COMPLETE block, and the newest sets in the incomplete block. Do they now accept two complete blocks instead of one?

PS: Lux cannon and surgical extraction (preemptive removal). Going on the assumption that if one Mirrodin block card is in there, they all still are.

There's more!
Geth's Verdict,
Helvault,
Moltensteel Dragon,
Wurmcoil Engine,
Chimeric Mass,
 BLAZING TORCH,
an artifact creature with Deadly Allure played on it,
Necropede (sort of),
Haunted Guardian (as a chump blocker),
Ratchet Bomb,
Crown of Empires (stops it's attacks),
Wall of Tanglecord,
Livewire Lash (if you are targeting your own creatures often),
Contagion Clasp,
Liquimetal Coating with Rust Tick,
Darksteel Myr,
Etched Champion (if you have the artifacts to make it work),
Mimic Vat with their nonblack/nongreen creatures
Moonsilver Spear
Tower of Calamities
Trigon of Corruption
Galvanic Juggernaut
Dross Ripper (if you have the mana)
Phyrexian Obliterator
Creepy Doll
Manor Gargoyle
Pestilent Soul Eater
Massacre Wurm
Life's Finale (to take out the extras your opponent has hiding in their library)
Geth, Lord of the Vault (do it ahead of time to just have their dead creatures chump blocking their crusaders)
Steel Hellkite
Contagion Engine
Argentum Armor (it is the Armor destroying the permanent, not the equipped zombie)
Sheoldred, Whispering One
Karn Liberated
Spine of Ish Sah
Platnium Emperion
Blightste-

Wait... wait...

You are having problems with a human...in a Zombie deck?

My question is: why do you have a standard Zombie deck that doesn't have this already in it?

The answer is in two parts. One, I don't usually have Zombies in my graveyard; either I exile them into 2/2 tokens w/ the Cemetery Reaper, or I get them back via undying, ghoulraiser, or recast gravecrawler. Two, it is far off my mana curve. I stop at 4.

zombie apocalypse is too slow, crusader has already beaten him down by 12 points before he can even cast it and thats without pumps. I'm assuming most of the time there is an honor of the pure or a sword that goes with him

Your best bet is to attack it before its on the field with discard.  Despise would work the best since you can control the discard.

Once in play your options are more limited, forcing the sac is a way to go with geths verdict,  though I would tend to lean more to barter in blood, and my personal favorite smallpox.  you might sac your own but with the undying running around you can end up boosting them.

Another option is to add some pro-white to race them more, knight of imfamy and phyrexian crusader (a zombie) come to mind, another good choice is phyrexian metamorph to become a copy of an opponents creature that can deal with it or give your crusader the same sword.  also considering phyrexian mana cower in fear followed by gutshot or act of agression with a sac outlt

I love the list, but I don't see Porcelain Legionnaire in there. That says something.

I didn't put Porcelain Legionnaire in because I filtered my search to black, land, and artifact. The first few things were just off the top of my head (hence why moltensteel showed up, because I feel it is a greatly undervalued card).
That being said, I did add the 2/1 first strike defender artifact from Avacyn Restored that costs just 2 (Haunted Guardian). Considering Legionnaire is going to cost you two life for that extra one power(which isn't needed since it is trading during the first strike stage), I don't necessarily see P.L. being worth it.

Yes, but if I draw a Legionnaire and there isn't a Mirran Crusader around, then the 3 power is good as an offensive tool too. The Haunted Gaurdian wont attack.

Thanks for all the help! I've decided to just go to mono black beatdown, so I'm using Legionnaires on offense too. Once again, thanks Boyachi and gericault5
