Duel Deck Special! - MTGCombos.com

Hello Forum. I've been searching around and I found the perfect topic. We should share what we believe should be the new Duel Deck! I, personally, LOVE duel decks, and have even owned 2 personally. I guess I will go first:

Retribution vs. Reanimation

Nicol Bolas has formed the entire population of Grixis, and is planning to annihilate each plane to increase his ever-growing army. The only hope for existence is the ever vigilant Planeswalker, Elspeth, to meet this threat head-on.

Each deck will be mono-colored.

Zombie (rares):

Cemetary Reaper
Death Baron
Phage the Untouchable
Zombie Master
Cover of Darkness
Crypt of Agadeem

Soldiers (Rare):

Field Marshal
Mobilization
Captain of the Watch
Benalish Commander
Catapult Master
Knight-Captain of Eos

The zombies will work around destruction and the soldiers will work around order. Both decks will feature a bit of control. Post your duel-deck and tell me what you think.

You are thinking of Bolas as way to one-sidedly. Black mana is based on destruction. Bolas just wants control. He needs blue in his mana cost.

Next duel deck should use a forgotten rivalry like dwarves and orcs, but they would need to print some.

No serious next duel deck wizards (blue mostly) vs clerics (white mostly)

Wizard rares Supreme Inquisitor, Riptide Director, Azami Lady of Scrolls, Serendib Sorrcerer required uncommons nameless one prodigal sorrcorer required commons 4x disruptive pitmage 4x merfolk thermatauligist

Cleric Rares Samite Elder, Nomad Mythmaker, battletide Alchemist, Ancestor's Prophet uncommons order of the stars, shieldmage elder (actually should be in both) soul warden doubtless one. Commons Soltari vissonary, monk idealist, fleet footed monk, songstitcher

Bolas isn't just about control, he's for power, as are all dragons. The reason I made him black was because the duel decks should be mono colored, and it gives a good storyline.

Treefolk vs Elementals would be a royal pain on both sides... it would be perfect. How about this one? I grabbed it off a website. Man vs. Machine. I'd like to see myr in a duel deck, but fungus would overpower them 5 million to 1.

His deck would be focused on card advantage. Mostly by cards such as prosperity and discard cards. Burn would be used to deal with pesky creatures, but not to much of it.

His deck would be the oppisite to Arcades's. His deck would be based on high power low toughness creatures, using regenerate to keep them alive, red would play a key role with fire breathing cards, which green will fuel.

We are currently doing an fnm project for Tyrants, and I have a blue artifact Tyrant deck. My friend is rolling Angels, so we're going half in for it too. He gets Elspeth's and I'm going for Tezzie.it's going to be very interesting.

Well, Elspeth has better abilities, but Tezz is quicker by far. Price and the fact that he could use her in Angels is why he's getting a good deal on it.

Well, Slivers has almost every creature ability in the game,so i think slivers will have a chance against everything thrown at them... Well, not almost every ability but you get the idea...

mursa pyromancer totally kills slivers takes out the best and the rest are suddenly weaker. Kill the best ally the rest are still like +10/+10 and if slivers fly tajura archer kills them, plus all the infinite turntimber combos.

Well, we also have to look at what duel decks have already been done.

Elves v. Gobblins

Plainswalker v. Plainswalker (a couple of these)

Divine v. Demonic

Urza v. Phyrixa

So, they prob. wont do another plainswalker v. plainswalker for awhile (they seem to be done with that theme) and Slivers already have their own 'premium' deck so i highly doubt that wotc would want to also throw them in a duel deck so clost to the release of that. Vampires there are not really enough of them to pull from all of mtg history (which is sort of the feel i get from these duel decks, they want to use cards that span the history of the game)

so, I suggest the following:

Thallids or Saporlings vs. Dragons or Giants (small and many vs. few and large, and green would feature some anti-flying stuff while red would feature some burn to help deal with the masses)

Knights vs. Undead (zombies with some Vampire leaders)

Holy Clerics (white) vs. Fallen Clerics (black)- (have the heavy hitters for Holy be Angles while the black ones are Demons...but that is very close to the divine vs. demonic, so it prob. wont fly.)

You can't simply say that multicolored Vampires are jokes. It all depends on the person that makes the deck. You can't depend on just Doom Blades and Hideous Ends to win a game. You have cards like Cancel and Unsummon that would completely ruin a vampire deck. My friend has a Red/Black Vamp deck that's better than any Mono Vamp deck I've ever seen.. And I've been to tourneys.

You failed to see what I was saying, I meant that vampires shouldn't be any color but black, so any vampire deck that uses other colors is lacking of pwnage points

That view is almost biased. That would be like saying an Elf shouldn't be black, or a dragon shouldn't be white, yet they have cards that are broken with those colors.

Elves shouldn't be black unless they are drow (or something of the like) as for dragons and white, popular folklore states not all dragons are evil. Though most are always seeking to bolster their horde. Not saying that cards themselves are bad, but the reduce style points.

I can see your reasoning, but I like the idea of races expanding to different colors. Nath of the Gilt-leaf is a powerful card, and it's a black and green elf with both aspects of black and green.

Elves expanding to white and black it ok by me. Black to symbolize the darker side of the race and White because it really fits. Similiar with merfolk I was ok when the splashed white, but when it became more of a fifty-fifty thing I started getting mad. Doing such doesn't really make sense with merfolk being they live in water, but a White-blue is good. Mixing creature types is good by my, but some where never meant to slip out of their purest color (The biggest in my eyes: Dwarves, and Goblins)

I do agree that Goblins should have stayed straight red. They just aren't good enough in black. Anyway, we should really get back on track. I'm about to make a second Thread on this, because it's really getting too long.

I understand why they overpowered Vamps. Before M10, you could hardly make a vampire deck, and the one's that were good were just about all the same. So WotC decided that Vampires should be a mainstream race.. which they should. They just made the race too powerful.
