If you cast Plagiarize, then use Cephalid Coliseum's Threshold ability targeting your opponent, would your opponent still be responsible for discarding the 3 cards?

Follow-up question........I'm working on a new Plagiarize, card advantage deck.....

If I were to have 14 cards in hand, and I cast Spiraling Embers for 13 damage (the remaining cards in my hand), and my opponent cast a counterspell or Venser in response,.....I cast Rites of Refusal, discarding 2 cards......would the stack check to see how many cards were in my hand at the time I played Spiraling Embers for the 13 damage, or would it resolve seeing only the 10 cards I have left in my hand?

To answer your first question, I believe those interactions would work. The coliseum makes your opponents draw and discard, and plagarize creates a replacement effect that replaces only the cards drawn, not any other effect.

As for spiraling embers, the card checks on resolution, not based on when you cast it. So if you lost three cards, it would deal 10 damage, not 13.

What Captain said about both interactions is complete accurate.  Here is the ruling to support his assement of the 2nd question

608.2g If an effect requires information from the game (such as the number of creatures on the battlefield), the answer is determined only once, when the effect is applied.

It checks the card count on resolution and only at resolution, what you had at the time of casting is illrelevent
