Think I may know the answers to these , but I'm gonna ask anyway for assurance.

Does Training Grounds affect:

The morphing cost of a face-down card like Exalted Angel?
I would assume this does apply....

The forecast cost of Paladin of Prahv?
Training Grounds states "creatures you control" so I'm not sure this would apply, given that this would be activated from my hand....

The activated ability of Glory, since it can "only" be activated from the grave?
Since Glory would technically be a creature "card" in the grave, not technically a creature, I'm not sure this would apply...

Yes to the morph cost, no to the Paladin and Glory. Training Ground affects creatures you CONTROL. Ones in your hand and graveyard don't count.

Actually its no to the morph as well. Morph is a static ability that offers an alternate cost to casting not an activated ability.

Actually you're playing it face down as a CREATURE that you CONTROL and you're morphing it while you CONTROL that creature.

  • 702.34d - If you have
    priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control face up. This
    is a special action; it doesn't use the stack (see Rule 114).
    To do this, show all players what the permanent's morph cost would be
    if it were face up, pay that cost, then turn the permanent face up. (If
    the permanent wouldn't have a morph cost if it were face up, it can't
    be turned face up this way.) The morph effect on it ends, and it
    regains its normal characteristics. Any abilities relating to the
    permanent entering the battlefield don't trigger when it's turned face
    up and don't have any effect, because the permanent has already entered
    the battlefield. [CompRules 2009/07/08]
Turning a card face-up isn't actually an activated ability (holy shit this is weird) but a special action.

@narn
Except the creature you CONTROL is a 2/2 olorless, nameless, cmcless, ability less thing
How do you play an ability on a creature with no abilities

Besides actived abilities are written cost colon effect and that is nowhere in the morph ability as opposed to forecast

@lin thanks

Ok, that all makes sense......I thought morphing would apply, but you're right, that's an alternate casting cost, not an ability. However, I thought at one time that Damping Matrix blocked morphing?.....which would infer that it is an ability. Idk, some card wording is a bit confusing sometimes.

Yeah, morphing is a lot weirder than I ever thought it would be.
