Title: EDH Replacement Effect Question

Alright I have a question. When a general would be destroyed in EDH, it's movement to the General Zone is a replacement effect. Void Maw's "If another creature would die, exile it instead" is also a replacement effect (as I understand it). If it's an opponent's turn, and you destroy a general, wouldn't their replacement effect trigger first, so that Void Maw's replacement effect resolves first?

And if all that were true, and you could exile a general with Void Maw's ability, would the controller of the general be able to use the replacement effect again, so that the general moves to the General Zone instead of being exiled?

Sorry, if I explained that poorly, just trying to figure this out.

As long as your the controller of void maw, then yes, maw would attempt to exile the general before it can be returned.

Hence my "attempt" comment above.  However, to be technical you are not using the same replacement effect, as only 1  replacement can occur for each replaced event.  The "into the graveyard" and "into exile" return to command zone are actually 2 seperate rules and therefore 2 seperate replacement effects
