I believe there was a topic a while ago about the Magic: The Gathering books, but I can't find it.

So, I'm interested in starting to read them. Any suggestions on where I should start? I'm particularly interested in the Eldrazi stuff, but if I need some back story, I would love to read the older books.

I recommend the Invasion series and Nemesis if you are going for a good read. The anthologies were really hit or miss. There are a lot of books. I read them all the way through Kamigawa, but stopped shortly after. Have the lorwyn and shadowmoor book, but never got far, mostly due to time and having to read so many other things.

I guess there is an Eldrazi book. I used to get them from the fat pack, but then again, they used to come with a book, a roll down die, a tournment pack, some odd booster packs and a spoiler and cost $24.95, not $40.

Before lorwyn each set had its own associated book, with 3 dealing with the block story.  Before Mirroden understanding alot of the early books was easier if you read prior ones, however, after mirroden the blocks were independant and did not require previous knowledge, though time spiral made more sense with prior reading.  After the lorwyn-shadowmoor block there was only 1 book per block.

If you want to read a set Ravinca and odessy are good and don't require any previous reading.

The only book that dealt with zendikar was teeth of akoum. If you want to read eldrazi that will be the one.

Arena has always been my favorite. It gets down to the heart of planeswalkers and what they are all about.

Aside from Arena, I dig the Artifacts cycle. It tells a lot about Mishra and Urza.
