Title: Multi-format tournament

So we couldn't decide on a format so it sounded good to combine some differant ones for each round.  Hopefully we get enough people to do 3 rounds or more.  So the rounds will be

Round 1:  King/single expansion  - 2 rares, 10 uncommons, rest commons, all from the same set, not block, set

Round 2:  Pauper/Hero Core - all coomons, only cards from 4th-10th core sets

Round 3:  60 card Highlander/Planechase -highlander rules, planechase decks

round 4:  TBD if needed

Scoring-rather then do elimination I am proposing a modified point system, basically if you win you get a point you lose you don't. Winners of the first round will be paired in the 2nd, and losers will be paired for the chance to move ahead in points, and so on for X rounds. X to be determined by how many sign up. winner determined by who has the most points at then end.  This way everyone can play all round

Sign ups will be until this Sunday 8pm EST with the pairings posted by 10pm the same night.  Round needs to be completed by the following sunday 8pm est, with the next round posted by 10 pm.  Format rules for each set will be posted by Wed/Thurs the week prior to start

So without further adiu..

Round 1:  King/Single Expansion

  • 60 card deck, deck consists of maxium of 2 rares, 10 uncommons, rest commons
  • Maxium of 4 copies of each card, each copy counts toward the above limits 
  • If a card was differant rarities depending on the set, the gather version of the set rules out, For example if the set was M10 Act of Treason counts as uncommon if M11 or M12 it counts as a common
  • All cards must come from a single set (though reprints in other sets are ok)
  • Due to the set restriction there will be no other restrictions to what can be played

and what if the copy of the card on cockatrice doesnt show rarity? like its from I think it was 5th edition and below?


(Also what if you change the pictures like I do?)

ALSO: can we only have 1 copy of a card? or can we have multiple just each copy counts towards the limit?

well you can go to gatherer and gatherer has rarities for cards from those older sets I believe. For rarities, I would just go with the most recent rarities rather than what Cockatrice shows, because Cockatrice may show something different for everyone (although I don't anticipate that being an issue very often).

good point,about rarity, ok for that one gather rules based on edition used.

you can have up to 4 copies for each card other then basics, each copy counts toward the limit

I originally read about Theodore Gericault in a History book. But I did have to google him for more detailed information....as far as The Raft of the Medusa... I think  it's a nice little painting. There's something about desperation that allows me to have a cackle or two...but I do prefer to actually witness it from time to time.

Thats umm alittle disturbing, but anyway check out goyas fifth of may and delacroix's death of sardanplines.  They have a  lets slaughter a bunch of pleading people because we can vibe to them.

but any way back to this post, it looks like so far we have...

Me, Dying, Chief, Lin, and possibly Captain (you replied but didn't say yes or no).  and thats it...

Turbine, Narcinek, Twogun, Pinkie where are you.  I can understand not partaking if money or something was involved, but this is for fun.  Step up to the challenge , experience some new formats

Also I realized that I said the deadline to join was tonight and the pairings will be done.  However, my parttime job asked me to work tonight and I can use the cash so I'll be working and won't have computer access.  so i'm extending sign up to 9pm monday night with pairings coming afterwards

That second round, is very painful to make, 428 commons to choose from.

Question about the first round:

If someone were to pick Time Spiral as the set they were doing, how do the special "Timeshifted" cards factor into the Rare/Uncommon limit? I figure that you would go off what rarity they were when they were first released, but I figured I'd ask what others think

Question about round 2

you say all commons and only from 4th-10th core set

what if its a common in one and not in another

Ex. the Circles of Protection are common in 4th-7th but in 8th its an uncommon, so could I play that as a common?

I would say MTGcombos but then we wouldn't have the recent sets available =/ we could use http://cardkingdom.com/ then say the price goes off of the highest or lowest quality, up to whoever is hosting it, thats my suggestion

that still would have to go along with the entire "which price we use" issue, but yours will probably be easier now that I think of it, Cardkingom has a lot of duplicates

If you build the decks in mtg vault it gives the price of the total deck, instead of looking up individual cards and adding.

Oh wait I forgot to post who won in me and Chief's match. You see I went for overly complicated U/W control...and Chief stomped me into the dirt with a more simplistic kithkin aggro. We both used Lorwyn for our battle. It was a fun battle...

Watched someone play phyrexian metamorph, copying nothing, keeping it alive with a mirari's wake!

Kicked rite of replication for 4 gilded lotus and 1 eternal witness, getting back rite! Repeat playing it for infinite mana and lotuses!

Then start copying rings of brighthearth, until finally a nicol bolas ultimate copied 9,999,999,999 times!
